An Accessible Way to Shop for Wigs, Hair Care & Styling Tools

At Your Hair And Wig, we believe every customer should be able to browse our wigs, lace fronts, hair care formulas, styling tools, and accessories at yourhairandwig.com with ease — including customers who use a screen reader, navigate by keyboard alone, live with low vision or color blindness, or experience a motor, cognitive, or hearing-related disability. This Accessibility Policy explains the standard we measure ourselves against, what we have already built into the site, and exactly how to reach a real person if something is hard to use.

This policy applies to yourhairandwig.com in its entirety: our homepage, collection and product pages, search, shopping cart, checkout, customer account area, and standalone pages such as About Us, FAQ, Order Tracking, and Contact. It applies equally to customers shopping from the United States and from Canada, the only two countries we currently ship to.

We treat accessibility as an ongoing responsibility, not a one-time project. As our catalog grows and our storefront theme is updated, we re-test key pages and prioritize fixes for anything that blocks a customer from completing a purchase.

Laws & Standards We Align With

This policy is informed by, and kept current with, the following authorities:

  • Americans with Disabilities Act, Title III (42 U.S.C. §§ 12181–12189)
  • U.S. Department of Justice guidance on website accessibility under the ADA
  • Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA — World Wide Web Consortium (W3C)
  • California Unruh Civil Rights Act (Cal. Civ. Code § 51)
  • Accessible Canada Act (S.C. 2019, c. 10)
  • Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 & Integrated Accessibility Standards (O. Reg. 191/11)
  • Canadian Human Rights Act (R.S.C., 1985, c. H-6) and applicable provincial Human Rights Codes

How We Make Our Site Easier to Use

These are the concrete features and practices we maintain across yourhairandwig.com today, and continue to refine as our theme and catalog evolve.

Semantic Structure & Screen Reader Support

Pages are built with proper heading order, landmark regions, and descriptive link text so screen reader users can navigate by heading or region instead of reading the entire page top to bottom.

Full Keyboard Navigation

Every menu, product filter, cart, and checkout field can be reached and operated using only a keyboard, with a visible focus outline so you always know where you are on the page. A “Skip to content” link lets keyboard and screen reader users bypass repeated header navigation on every page.

Color Contrast & Text Legibility

Text and background color pairings across the site are checked against the WCAG AA minimum contrast ratio of 4.5:1 for body text. We never rely on color alone to communicate meaning — for example, “Sold Out” is always spelled out in text, not signaled by color alone.

Descriptive Alternative Text for Product Images

Wig, lace front, and hair-product photos include descriptive alt text covering the product, color, and style shown, so screen reader users receive the same product information sighted shoppers see in the image.

Resizable Text & Responsive Layout

Our storefront is fully responsive and remains usable when text is enlarged up to 200% in the browser, without content overlapping or becoming impossible to read, on both desktop and mobile devices.

Clear Form Labels & Error Identification

Contact, account, and checkout form fields carry visible, programmatically associated labels. If a required field is missing or incorrect, the error is described in plain text next to the field, not only with a color change.

Captions for Styling & Product Videos

Where we publish styling tutorials or product demonstration videos, we add captions or an on-page text summary so the same information is available to customers who are deaf, hard of hearing, or browsing with sound off.

Consistent, Predictable Navigation

The header, footer, and policy links appear in the same place and order on every page, and interactive elements behave consistently, so customers who rely on memorized patterns or screen reader landmarks are not disoriented.

Tested With Common Assistive Technology

Key pages — including the homepage, a product page, the cart, and checkout — are periodically tested with widely used screen readers and browser zoom/magnification tools to confirm they remain usable as we make changes.

What “WCAG 2.1 Level AA” Means for Our Site

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, published by the W3C, are the most widely recognized technical benchmark for an accessible website and the standard referenced by both U.S. Department of Justice guidance and Canadian regulators. We use WCAG 2.1 AA as our working target across yourhairandwig.com.

Describing this as a “target” rather than a guarantee is intentional and honest: a storefront with thousands of product listings, customer-submitted reviews, and third-party apps is a living system, and full conformance on every single page at every moment is not something any retailer can promise. What we can promise is that we test against this standard, fix what we find, and respond quickly when a customer tells us something doesn’t work.

Certain parts of the shopping experience — secure checkout, payment processing, and some embedded video players — are built and operated by Shopify or other third-party providers. We choose vendors who maintain their own accessibility programs, but we do not control or modify the underlying code of those third-party components directly.

United States
  • ADA Title III applies to “places of public accommodation,” and a growing body of federal case law treats commercial websites as covered
  • The DOJ has identified WCAG 2.1 Level AA as a reasonable technical standard in its public guidance on web and mobile accessibility
  • California’s Unruh Civil Rights Act ties statutory damages to underlying ADA violations for California-based customers
  • We never ask a customer to disclose a disability in order to receive the same pricing, promotions, or service as any other shopper
Canada
  • The Accessible Canada Act primarily governs federally regulated organizations; we voluntarily align our practices with its goals
  • Ontario’s AODA Integrated Accessibility Standards set WCAG-based web requirements for organizations that meet certain size thresholds, and we follow that web standard regardless
  • The Canadian Human Rights Act and provincial Human Rights Codes prohibit discrimination in the provision of goods and services on the basis of disability
  • Customers in Quebec or elsewhere in Canada may contact us in English or French, and we will arrange a French-language response on request

Where We Are Still Improving

We would rather tell you plainly where gaps may exist than imply a level of perfection no storefront our size can guarantee. Areas we are actively monitoring and improving include:

Legacy product descriptions. Some older listings may use heading or formatting styles that predate our current content guidelines; these are corrected as we review and refresh listings.

Embedded third-party video. Video players hosted on YouTube or similar platforms carry their own accessibility controls, which we do not control directly, though we add supporting text wherever practical.

Customer-submitted reviews. Review text and images are written by customers and may occasionally lack alt text or contain formatting we did not create; we correct what we can when it is reported.

Our Improvement Roadmap

  • Purchase-blocking issues first. Anything that prevents a customer from searching, selecting, or checking out is treated as the highest priority and addressed first.
  • Routine re-testing. Core pages are re-checked after any theme update, new app installation, or major catalog change.
  • Vendor accountability. Apps and embedded tools are reviewed for accessibility impact before we add them to the store, and removed if they introduce a serious barrier we cannot fix.
  • Customer reports drive the queue. Issues reported through the form below are logged and factored directly into what gets fixed next.

03

We Fix It or Offer an Alternative

If we can resolve the barrier, we will. If a fix will take longer, we will offer you an alternative way to shop — by phone, email, or live chat — in the meantime.

How We Keep This Policy Honest

This policy describes real practices, not aspirational language. Here is how we maintain it:

  • Manual & Automated Testing

Core pages are checked with automated accessibility scanning tools and manual keyboard-only and screen-reader testing, rather than relying on automated scans alone, since automated tools cannot catch every barrier.

  • Staff Awareness

Our customer service and live chat team is briefed on how to assist customers who use assistive technology or who need an alternative way to complete an order, including by phone or email.

  • Customer Report Response

Every report submitted through the form above or sent to info@yourhairandwig.com is logged, reviewed within two business days, and confirmed back to the customer with an outcome where contact information is provided.

  • Annual Policy Review

This policy is reviewed at minimum once per year, and sooner whenever U.S. federal or Canadian accessibility regulations change in a way that affects our storefront. The effective date at the top of this page reflects the most recent update.
