Ingredient Transparency
We Tell You Exactly What's Inside
Full ingredient disclosure for every hair care product, complete fiber composition for every wig, weave, and extension, and a clear account of how we protect you under US and Canadian law.
Why Ingredient Transparency Matters at Your Hair And Wig
At Your Hair And Wig, we sell hair care products that touch your scalp, skin, and body every day, alongside wigs, extensions, weaves, and scarves that sit directly against your head for hours at a time. You deserve to know precisely what those products are made from.
This page provides a full, plain-language account of the ingredients in our hair care range, the fiber and material composition of our hair products, the substances we refuse to stock, and the allergen information you need to make safe purchasing decisions. Everything on this page reflects our actual catalog as sold on yourhairandwig.com.
We ship exclusively to the United States and Canada. Both countries have specific ingredient safety requirements that differ from each other and, in several cases, differ from the rest of the world. This page explains both sets of requirements and how we comply with each of them.

Full Product Ingredient Lists
The ingredient lists printed on each individual product's physical label and reproduced in the product description on our website are the authoritative source for that product's specific formulation. The information on this page provides a general transparency overview. For the full INCI ingredient list of any specific product, please refer to that product's listing on yourhairandwig.com/collections/all or contact us directly at info@yourhairandwig.com.
What We Sell and What We Disclose for Each Category
Our catalog spans three primary product types. The type of ingredient or composition disclosure we are required to make, and do make, differs for each. Here is a clear breakdown of every category and what transparency information applies to it.
Hair Care Products
This category includes shampoos, conditioners, volumizing shampoos, leave-in conditioners, hair masks (including our coconut oil and batana oil masks), hair oils and serums, hair sprays, heat protectant sprays, styling creams, hair gels, hair mousse, hair clay, hair wax, hair styling paste, and hair volumizers. All products in this category are cosmetics regulated under FDA rules in the US and Health Canada rules in Canada. Each product displays its full INCI (International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients) ingredient list on the label and on the product's listing page. Ingredients are listed in descending order of concentration as required by both US and Canadian regulations.
Wigs, Lace Fronts, Weaves & Extensions
This category includes full wigs, lace front wigs, synthetic wigs, human hair wigs, hair weaves, hair extensions, and clip-in pieces. These products are textiles or personal care accessories, not cosmetics, and are regulated primarily under the Textile Fiber Products Identification Act in the US and the Textile Labelling Act in Canada. Disclosure for these products covers the fiber type (human hair, synthetic fiber, or a blend), the percentage of each fiber by weight, the country of origin, and the cap construction materials (lace, elastic, combs, adjustable straps). This information is provided on the product label and in the product description for every wig and weave product we list.
Scarves, Headscarves & Hair Accessories
This category includes fabric headscarves, headbands, and solid-color head accessories. These are textile consumer goods, not cosmetics. For textile items we disclose the fiber content (such as polyester, nylon, cotton, or blends), the percentage of each fiber by mass for fibers present in amounts greater than 5%, and the country of origin. Products designed to be worn against the scalp or skin are sourced from suppliers who confirm that the dyes and finishing agents used meet safety standards under the US Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act and the Canadian Consumer Product Safety Act, specifically with regard to formaldehyde and heavy metal content in textile finishes.
Common Ingredient Categories in Our Hair Care Products
The table below outlines the ingredient categories that appear across our hair care product range, explains the function each ingredient type serves, and indicates its status under US and Canadian cosmetic safety standards. This table is a transparency reference. For the precise INCI list of a specific product, always refer to that product's individual label and listing page.

How to read this table: "Permitted" means the ingredient category is allowed under applicable US and Canadian cosmetic regulations without special restrictions at the concentrations typically used in cosmetic products. "Restricted" means the ingredient is allowed only up to a specified maximum concentration or under specific product conditions (for example, rinse-off versus leave-on products). We do not sell any product containing an ingredient at a concentration that exceeds the applicable US or Canadian limit.
Wig, Weave, Extension & Scarf Material Disclosure
Wigs, weaves, extensions, and fabric hair accessories are governed not by cosmetic ingredient law but by textile fiber identification law. Under the US Textile Fiber Products Identification Act (15 U.S.C. § 70) and Canada's Textile Labelling Act (R.S.C. 1985, c. T-10), all textile products must carry a label identifying the fiber content in plain language. The table below describes the fiber types used across our wig, weave, and scarf product range. Individual product pages specify the exact fiber percentages for each item.
| Fiber / Material Type | What It Is | Products It Appears In | Key Characteristics | US Label Name | Canada Label Name |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Human Hair | Unprocessed or minimally processed hair sourced from human donors; may be remy (cuticle-aligned) or non-remy | Human hair wigs, lace front wigs, weaves, extensions | Most natural look, heat-styleable, longer lifespan; more expensive than synthetic | "Human Hair" | "Human Hair" / "Cheveux humains" |
| Synthetic Fiber (Kanekalon / Modacrylic) | Flame-resistant synthetic fiber made from modacrylic polymer; most widely used synthetic wig fiber | Synthetic wigs, lace fronts, weaves | Pre-styled, lightweight, affordable, not heat-styleable unless labeled "heat-resistant"; does not tangle like lower-grade fibers | "Modacrylic" | "Modacrylique" |
| Heat-Resistant Synthetic Fiber | Specially processed synthetic fiber (modacrylic variant) engineered to withstand styling tool temperatures up to approximately 350°F / 180°C | Heat-resistant synthetic wigs and lace fronts | Accepts flat irons and curling irons within specified temperature range; labeled "heat-resistant" or "heat-friendly" on product listings | "Modacrylic" or "Synthetic Fiber" | "Fibre synthétique" |
| Lace (Cap Construction) | Swiss or French lace used in the construction of lace front and full-lace wig caps; not a fiber worn against the scalp but a structural element of the wig cap | Lace front wigs, full lace wigs | Swiss lace is finer and more translucent for a natural hairline appearance; French lace is more durable and slightly thicker | Disclosed in product description as cap construction material | Disclosed in product description as cap construction material |
| Polyester | Synthetic polymer fiber used in headscarves, headbands, and fabric hair accessories | Headscarves, solid-color headbands, head accessories | Durable, wrinkle-resistant, holds dye well; soft against skin when properly finished | "Polyester" | "Polyester" |
| Nylon | Synthetic polymer fiber; used in cap linings, adjustable straps, and some scarf blends | Wig cap components, fabric accessories | Lightweight, strong, smooth-feeling against the scalp; used to reduce friction in cap linings | "Nylon" | "Nylon" |
| Elastic (Spandex / Elastane) | Stretch fiber used in adjustable wig bands, headbands, and cap construction | Wig cap construction, stretch headbands | Provides stretch and adjustability; present in small percentages within wig cap construction and headband accessories | "Spandex" | "Spandex" / "Élasthanne" |
Country of Origin Disclosure
All wig, weave, extension, and textile hair accessory products sold on our site carry a country of origin declaration in accordance with US Customs regulations (19 U.S.C. § 1304) and the Canadian Textile Labelling Act. This information is printed on the product label attached to the item you receive and is noted in the product description on our website wherever it is determinable prior to shipment. If you require country of origin confirmation before purchasing a specific product, please contact us at info@yourhairandwig.com before placing your order.
Ingredients and Substances We Refuse to Stock or Sell
The following substances are either prohibited by US federal law, prohibited under Health Canada's Cosmetic Ingredient Hotlist, banned under California's Toxic-Free Cosmetics Act (SB 574), or are substances we have independently determined to pose unacceptable risk to our customers regardless of regulatory status. No product in our catalog contains any of the following at any concentration.
Formaldehyde as a Direct Ingredient
Formaldehyde used directly as a preservative or straightening agent is prohibited. This is distinct from the very low levels of formaldehyde that may be incidentally released from certain compliant preservative systems such as DMDM hydantoin at permitted concentrations. Direct formaldehyde — commonly found in non-compliant Brazilian keratin treatments — is not present in any product we sell. We do not list any keratin treatment or hair straightening product that contains formaldehyde or sodium hydroxide-free chemical relaxers with unlisted releasing agents.
Mercury and Mercury Compounds
Mercury (including mercuric chloride, ammoniated mercury, and phenylmercuric salts) is prohibited by the FDA under 21 C.F.R. § 700.18 and by Health Canada's Cosmetic Ingredient Hotlist. It has historically appeared in certain skin-lightening and anti-aging products. We do not sell any skin lightener, toner, or hair product containing mercury or mercury compounds. Any product we stock that lightens the appearance of skin (such as scalp treatments) does so only through non-mercury mechanisms.
Lead and Lead Acetate
Lead acetate was historically used as a color agent in progressive hair dyes. The FDA finalized a rule prohibiting lead acetate in cosmetics effective October 2018. Health Canada's Cosmetic Ingredient Hotlist also prohibits lead and its compounds. We do not stock any hair coloring product — including progressive darkening products — that contains lead acetate or any other lead compound. All hair color-adjacent products we carry undergo ingredient verification before listing.
Chloroform and Halogenated Solvents
Chloroform and other halogenated solvent compounds are prohibited in cosmetics under FDA regulation (21 C.F.R. § 310.545 and § 700.11). These substances have appeared historically in hair styling sprays and aerosol products. None of the aerosol or spray products we sell — including hair sprays and heat protectant sprays — contain chloroform, methylene chloride, or other halogenated solvents.
Prohibited Colorants
Certain color additives are not approved by the FDA for use in cosmetics intended for use near the eye, on the scalp, or in hair care products. We do not list products using non-approved color additives. In particular, we do not sell products that use coal tar dyes not approved under 21 C.F.R. Part 74. For Canada, we comply with Health Canada's Hotlist restrictions on specific azo dyes and other colorants that are prohibited or restricted in cosmetics sold in Canada.
California SB 574 (Toxic-Free Cosmetics Act) Prohibited Substances
California SB 574, effective January 1, 2025, prohibits 24 specific chemical ingredients in cosmetics sold in California, including dibutyl phthalate, diethylhexyl phthalate, formaldehyde, paraformaldehyde, methylene glycol, quaternium-15, mercury, isobutylparaben, isopropylparaben, and others. Because we sell to all US states — including California — we apply the California standard across our entire US catalog. No cosmetic product we sell contains any of these 24 prohibited ingredients.
Parabens — Isobutylparaben and Isopropylparaben
While some parabens remain permitted in the United States at the federal level, isobutylparaben and isopropylparaben are specifically prohibited in California under SB 574 effective January 1, 2025. Canada restricts isobutylparaben and isopropylparaben under the Cosmetic Regulations. We apply these restrictions to our full catalog for both the US and Canada. Common compliant parabens (such as methylparaben and ethylparaben) may appear in some products at permitted concentrations, and are disclosed on the product label when present.
Phthalates (Dibutyl Phthalate and DEHP)
Dibutyl phthalate (DBP) and diethylhexyl phthalate (DEHP) are prohibited in cosmetics under California SB 574 and are also restricted under various Canadian provincial consumer product safety requirements. These compounds have historically appeared in nail care products, fragrances, and some hair care formulations as plasticizers. We do not sell any cosmetic product on our site that contains DBP or DEHP, and we verify this with supplier documentation before listing any product containing fragrance or polymer-based film formers.
What You Need to Know if You Have Sensitivities
If you have a known sensitivity or allergy to any cosmetic ingredient, please read the full INCI ingredient list on each individual product page before purchasing. The categories below cover the most common sensitivity concerns among hair and beauty product users, and how we address them.
Fragrance Sensitivity
Fragrance compounds are listed as "Fragrance" or "Parfum" on product labels. If you are fragrance-sensitive, look for products in our range labeled "fragrance-free" or "unscented." Fragrance-free means no fragrance compounds have been added; unscented means a masking fragrance may be present.
Sulfate Sensitivity
Sulfates (SLS, SLES) are cleansing agents that may cause scalp dryness or irritation in some individuals. Sulfate-containing shampoos are clearly identified in the ingredient list. If you prefer to avoid sulfates, filter or search for sulfate-free options in our Hair Products collection.
Protein Sensitivity
Some individuals with high-porosity hair experience "protein overload" with frequent use of protein-heavy products such as hydrolyzed keratin treatments or silk amino acid masks. Product descriptions on our site note when a product is high in protein content so customers can manage their routine accordingly.
Nut and Seed Oil Sensitivities
Several products in our range contain coconut oil, argan oil (from the argan tree nut), castor oil, or batana oil. If you have a tree nut allergy, consult your healthcare provider before using products containing tree-derived oils. These oils are listed by their INCI names on each product label.
Synthetic Fiber Scalp Sensitivity
A small number of individuals experience scalp sensitivity from prolonged contact with synthetic wig fibers, particularly modacrylic fibers treated with certain finishing agents. If you experience scalp irritation from wearing a synthetic wig, discontinue use and contact us at info@yourhairandwig.com to discuss alternative options.
Gluten and Wheat Derivatives
Some conditioning and strengthening products in our range contain hydrolyzed wheat protein. Individuals with celiac disease should be aware that while topical cosmetic products are not ingested, some people with celiac disease choose to avoid topical wheat-derived ingredients out of caution. Look for "hydrolyzed wheat protein" or "triticum vulgare" in the INCI list of each product.
Preservative Sensitivities
Preservatives such as phenoxyethanol and sodium benzoate are used in most water-containing cosmetic formulations to prevent microbial growth. These are generally well-tolerated. If you have a documented sensitivity to a specific preservative, check the INCI list for each product before purchasing. Preservative-free anhydrous products (oils, waxes, dry styling products) contain no water-phase preservatives.
Questions About a Specific Product
If you have a sensitivity concern about a product not addressed here, please contact us before purchasing. Email us at info@yourhairandwig.com or call +1 (561) 810-0428 during business hours. We will provide you with the full ingredient list or connect you with the supplier for clarification before you order.
Medical Disclaimer: The information on this page is provided for product transparency and consumer education purposes only. It is not medical advice and does not substitute for consultation with a qualified healthcare provider, dermatologist, or allergist. If you experience a skin reaction, scalp irritation, or allergic response after using any product purchased from our store, discontinue use immediately and seek medical advice. You may also report adverse reactions to the FDA at fda.gov/safety/medwatch or to Health Canada at canada.ca/health-canada/recalls-alerts.
How We Source Products and Verify Their Ingredient Integrity
Ingredient transparency does not mean simply reprinting what a supplier tells us. It means verifying that information before we list a product and acting on that verification with a clear decision to include or exclude. Here is how we do that at Your Hair And Wig.
Supplier Documentation Review
Before any product is listed on our site, we request the full INCI ingredient list, Safety Data Sheet (SDS), and where applicable, evidence of MoCRA facility registration for cosmetic manufacturers. For textile products, we request fiber content certification and country of origin documentation. We do not list a product until this documentation is received and reviewed.
Cross-Check Against Prohibited Lists
Every ingredient list we receive is compared against the FDA's list of prohibited and restricted cosmetic ingredients, Health Canada's Cosmetic Ingredient Hotlist, and the California SB 574 prohibition list. Any product containing a prohibited ingredient is declined for listing. Any product containing a restricted ingredient is evaluated for compliance with the applicable concentration limits before a listing decision is made.
Product Listing Review and Claim Verification
Once an ingredient list is approved, the product claims made in our product descriptions are reviewed against the ingredient composition. We do not permit claims in our listings that are not supported by the actual formulation — for example, we do not label a product "sulfate-free" if it contains SLS or SLES, and we do not label a wig "100% human hair" if it contains any synthetic fiber blend.
Ongoing Recall and Alert Monitoring
We monitor the FDA's cosmetic enforcement actions, the CPSC recall database, and Health Canada's recall and safety alert feeds on an ongoing basis. If a product we sell is subject to a recall or safety advisory, we remove it from the site within 24 hours of the official notice and contact affected customers where we have their order information.
Label Accuracy Checks
Where physically possible, we cross-reference the ingredient list printed on the physical product label with the documentation provided by the supplier. Discrepancies between the label and the supplier documentation are flagged to the supplier for resolution before the product is listed or remains listed. We do not list products with illegible, incomplete, or English-only labels where bilingual labeling is legally required for Canadian shipments.
Customer Feedback and Incident Response
If a customer reports an adverse reaction, an unexpected ingredient, or a label discrepancy on any product they received from us, we investigate it as a priority. Reports can be submitted via the form at the bottom of this page, by email at info@yourhairandwig.com, or by phone at +1 (561) 810-0428 during business hours.
US & Canadian Ingredient Transparency Regulations
Because we ship to both the United States and Canada, every cosmetic and textile product we sell must comply with two distinct federal regulatory systems — and in some cases, applicable US state law as well. Here is a detailed account of the regulations that govern our ingredient disclosure obligations.
- Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FD&C Act) — 21 U.S.C. § 361–363: The foundational US law governing cosmetic safety. Cosmetics must be safe under labeled conditions of use and not be adulterated or misbranded. The FD&C Act requires cosmetics to bear a complete ingredient declaration on the label in descending order of predominance. All hair care cosmetics we sell carry a compliant ingredient declaration in INCI nomenclature.
- Modernization of Cosmetics Regulation Act (MoCRA, 2022 — 21 U.S.C. § 364): The most significant update to US cosmetic law in over 80 years. MoCRA requires cosmetic manufacturers to register facilities with the FDA, list cosmetic products, maintain safety substantiation records, and report serious adverse events. We verify that any cosmetic manufacturer whose products we carry is registered with the FDA under MoCRA's facility registration requirements.
- Fair Packaging and Labeling Act (15 U.S.C. § 1451–1461): Requires cosmetics to bear a statement of identity, a declaration of net quantity of contents, and the name and address of the manufacturer, packer, or distributor. All cosmetics we sell must bear compliant labels meeting these requirements.
- Textile Fiber Products Identification Act (15 U.S.C. § 70): All textile fiber products — including wigs made of synthetic fiber and fabric hair accessories — must be labeled with the generic fiber name, percentage of each fiber present in amounts greater than 5%, and the country of manufacture. All wig, weave, and textile accessory products we sell carry compliant fiber content labels.
- California Toxic-Free Cosmetics Act (SB 574, effective January 1, 2025): Prohibits 24 specific chemical ingredients in cosmetics sold to California consumers. Because we sell nationwide, we apply this standard to our entire US catalog. No product listed on our site contains any of the 24 SB 574-prohibited ingredients.
- Minnesota Cosmetics Safety Act (S.F. 4428, 2023): Restricts 11 additional chemical ingredients in cosmetics sold in Minnesota, including phenol and several per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). Our catalog is reviewed against Minnesota's restrictions where relevant, and we do not stock cosmetics containing the ingredients specifically prohibited by this act.
- Food and Drugs Act (R.S.C. 1985, c. F-27) and Cosmetic Regulations (SOR/2016-121): All cosmetics sold in Canada must have ingredients disclosed to Health Canada within 10 days of first sale. The ingredient list must appear on the label in both English and French, listing ingredients in descending order of concentration using INCI names. Cosmetics must not contain any ingredient on Health Canada's prohibited list or in excess of restricted concentrations. Every cosmetic product we ship to Canada must meet these bilingual labeling and notification requirements.
- Health Canada Cosmetic Ingredient Hotlist: Canada's Cosmetic Ingredient Hotlist is a non-exhaustive list of substances that are prohibited or restricted in cosmetics. It includes hundreds of chemicals, colorants, preservatives, and UV filters. Prohibited substances include mercury, lead, formaldehyde (above 0.2%), bithionol, chloroform, and numerous others. We check our product ingredient lists against the current Hotlist prior to listing any cosmetic product for Canadian sale, and we update our review whenever Health Canada revises the Hotlist.
- Canada Consumer Product Safety Act (S.C. 2010, c. 21): Non-cosmetic consumer products — including wigs, hair accessories, and styling tools — must not present an unreasonable danger to the health or safety of persons. CPSA also prohibits misrepresenting a product's composition, safety, or country of origin. All non-cosmetic products we ship to Canada are verified for CPSA compliance.
- Textile Labelling Act (R.S.C. 1985, c. T-10): Textile products sold in Canada must display the generic name of each fiber present in amounts greater than 5%, the percentage of each fiber by mass in descending order, and the country of origin — in both English and French on the product label. All wig, weave, and fabric accessory products we ship to Canada carry bilingual fiber content labels compliant with this Act.
- Competition Act — Misleading Product Representation (R.S.C. 1985, c. C-34, s. 74.01): Product claims, including ingredient claims, natural claims, and "free-from" claims, must be truthful and not likely to mislead Canadian consumers. We do not use "natural," "organic," "chemical-free," or "toxin-free" claims on any product listing unless those claims are accurate and substantiated by the product's actual formulation, because such claims without substantiation constitute a deceptive practice under the Competition Act.
- Natural Health Products Regulations (SOR/2003-196) — boundary awareness: Products that make therapeutic claims (for example, claims to treat hair loss as a medical condition, or to treat scalp disease) cross the line from cosmetics to natural health products under Canadian law and require a Natural Product Number (NPN) or Drug Identification Number (DIN). We do not list any cosmetic product that makes therapeutic claims. Products that describe supporting healthy hair or nourishing the scalp as general wellness descriptions remain within cosmetic territory under applicable guidance.
How We Write Product Descriptions and What Claims We Allow
The ingredient-related claims that appear on our product pages follow a strict standard: if a claim cannot be supported by the product's actual ingredient list or an established cosmetic mechanism, we do not make it. Here is what that looks like in practice.
-
"Sulfate-Free" Claims
We only apply this label to products that contain no sodium lauryl sulfate, sodium laureth sulfate, ammonium lauryl sulfate, or other sulfate-based surfactants. If a product contains any sulfate, it is not labeled sulfate-free on our site.
-
"100% Natural" or "Organic" Claims
We do not use the terms "100% natural" or "certified organic" on any product unless that product holds a recognized third-party certification such as USDA Organic or carries documentation that supports the natural claim for all ingredients. The word "organic" in a product name (as used by the manufacturer) is reproduced as-is and does not constitute a certification claim made by our store.
-
"100% Human Hair" Wig Claims
A wig or weave is only described as "100% human hair" on our site when the supplier has confirmed through product documentation that the hair fiber is entirely human-origin with no synthetic blend. Any wig with any synthetic fiber content — including in the cap construction lace or straps — is described accurately as a blend or as containing the named synthetic components.
-
Drug and Therapeutic Claims
We do not permit drug claims on any listing on our site. A product that claims to "treat hair loss," "cure alopecia," "regrow hair," or "treat dandruff as a medical condition" is making a drug claim under both US and Canadian law and would require drug approval that cosmetic products do not carry. Our listings describe cosmetic benefits only — such as "supports healthy hair growth," "moisturizes the scalp," or "reduces the appearance of breakage" — which describe the expected cosmetic effect of the ingredients.
Where to Find Full Ingredient Lists
- On the product's physical label, printed in the required format by the manufacturer
- In the "Ingredients" section of each individual product's listing on our website
- By contacting us at info@yourhairandwig.com with the product name before purchasing

Formulation Changes by Manufacturer
Manufacturers occasionally update their formulations without advance notice. When we become aware of a formulation change on a product we carry, we update the ingredient list on that product's page as quickly as possible. However, ingredient lists on physical labels may lag behind website updates. If you notice a discrepancy between the label you received and what is listed on our website, please notify us at info@yourhairandwig.com so we can investigate and update accordingly.
